Thomson, Georgia is a wonderful city located in McDuffie County. It is situated in the eastern part of the state, about 30 miles west of Augusta. Thomson was originally known as "Slashes" due to its location in a heavily forested area. It was later renamed Thomson in honor of a local official, John Edgar Thomson, who was the chief engineer of the Georgia Railroad. Today Thomson is home to 7 thousand residents.
