Charlevoix County is situated in the central region of Michigan. The area of Charlevoix County is about 1,391 square miles. The county was set up in 1869 from parts of Antrim, Emmet, and Otsego Counties, and it is populated today by 26 thousand residents. Charlevoix is the county seat of Charlevoix County. The county is named after Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix (1682-1761): Jesuit traveller and historian of New France.
