Burke County is situated to the northwest of Charlotte, North Carolina. The area of Burke County is about 515 square miles. The county was founded in 1777 from Rowan County, and it is populated today by 88 thousand residents. Morganton is the county seat of Burke County. The county is named after Thomas Burke (1747-1783), a member of the Continental Congress and governor of North Carolina.
