Greene County is situated in the central region of North Carolina. The county is named after Nathanael Greene (1742-1786), a major general of the Continental Army. The area of Greene County is about 266 square miles. The county was established in 1799 from Dobbs County, Originally named Glasgow County, and it is populated today by 20 thousand residents.
