Dane County is located in the southern area of Wisconsin. This special county is named after Nathan Dane (1752-1835), delegate to the First Continental Congress (1785-88). The county seat of Dane County is Madison. The county's area is about 1197 square miles. Established in 1836, today Dane County is home to 564 thousand residents.
