Wayne County is situated in the central part of North Carolina. The county is named after Anthony Wayne (1745-1796), a general in the American Revolutionary War. The area of Wayne County is about 557 square miles. The county was set up in 1779 from Dobbs County, and it is populated today by 117 thousand residents. Goldsboro is the county seat of Wayne County.
