Why does the Sun turn red on sunset

The light emitted by our wonderful star is absolutely white, but what gives it color is the air it passes through when it reaches our eyes. The more air it has to pass, the more red color we see.

The atmosphere of our planet not only protects us from the deadly radiation emitted by the Sun, it also colors the sunlight in yellow, orange or red color, depending on the thickness of the air sunlight has to pass.
