This beautiful county is named after John Bell Hood (1831-1879), a Confederate lieutenant general and the commander of Hood's Texas Brigade. The total area of Hood County is about 422 square miles. This county, created in 1866, is populated today by at least 64 thousand residents. Granbury is the county seat of Hood County.
