Washburn County is situated in the northwestern area of Wisconsin. This prominent county is named after Cadwallader Washburn (1818-82), Governor (1872-74) and Representative from Wisconsin (1867-71). The area of Washburn County is about 797 square miles. This county, set up in 1883, is populated today by 17 thousand residents. Shell Lake is the county seat of Washburn County.
