The service for answering anonymous questions Ask.fm has announced its closure

The Ask.fm platform, a service for answering anonymous questions, will close on December 1, 2024, the project team reports.

The reason for the closure is said to be a “significant reduction in the user base.” New accounts on Ask.fm cannot be registered since October 24.

“Unfortunately, our platform no longer meets the needs of today's social media users… Thank you to everyone who showed curiosity and asked questions, and to everyone who had the courage to give sincere answers,” Ask.fm said in a statement.

The platform was created in Latvia in 2010 as a competitor to a similar service, Formspring, and was most popular in the 2010s. According to the company itself, 215 million users have registered on the platform. The number of active users per year is estimated at 32 million. The service was available in 49 languages.
