Christ the Redeemer is made of reinforced concrete and covered with a mosaic of thousands of triangular soapstone tiles. Soapstone was chosen for its durability and resistance to extreme weather conditions. The outer layer also provides a smooth, elegant appearance that reflects sunlight beautifully. Despite its age, the statue has remained relatively intact thanks to the quality of its materials and restoration efforts. Cracks and damage from lightning strikes have occasionally required repairs. Each repair involves replacing damaged soapstone with care to preserve the original design.
