When was Christ the Redeemer built?

Construction of the statue began in 1922 and was completed in 1931. It was officially inaugurated on October 12, 1931, to mark the centenary of Brazil’s independence from Portugal. The project took nine years and involved a collaboration between Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and French sculptor Paul Landowski. Since then, it has stood as a national symbol of faith and unity. Several restorations have taken place to maintain its condition. It was also declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
