What is the significance of the Temple Mount above the Wall?

The Temple Mount, located directly above the Western Wall, is the most sacred site in Judaism and also significant to Muslims and Christians. It was the location of the First and Second Jewish Temples, and today it houses the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, important Islamic landmarks. Due to its religious and political sensitivity, access and control over the Temple Mount is highly regulated.
