Why is it called the Wailing Wall?

The term "Wailing Wall" was coined by European visitors who observed Jews praying and weeping at the site over the centuries, mourning the destruction of the Temple. While the name is still used in English, many prefer the terms "Western Wall" or "ha-Kotel" as they are more respectful and accurate. The wall represents centuries of Jewish longing for Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the Temple.
