Cool facts about the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is over 270 miles long and up to 18 miles wide. It exposes nearly 2 billion years of Earth's geologic history. Carved by the Colorado River, it's still deepening today. It’s larger than the entire state of Rhode Island. Native Americans have lived in and around the canyon for thousands of years. There are over 1,700 known plant species in the area. The temperature varies greatly from rim to river. It's one of the most visited natural attractions in the U.S.
