Corfu has a crazy mix of influences because it was ruled by Venetians, French, and British before joining Greece. That’s why the Old Town feels more Italian than Cycladic, with pastel buildings and arcades. The Venetians left fortresses and cultural traces that still shape the vibe today. The British brought cricket, ginger beer, and neoclassical architecture. Even today you see this mix in food, music, and traditions. Corfu was also one of the few Greek islands never fully conquered by the Ottomans, which adds to its unique culture. So yeah, it’s Greek at heart but with layers from Europe’s history baked in.
