Schwerin Castle has a seriously long and layered history — it started as a Slavic fort back in the 10th century before becoming the main residence of Mecklenburg’s dukes. The version you see today was mostly rebuilt between 1847 and 1857 in that dreamy Neo-Renaissance style that makes it look straight out of a fairytale. Over the centuries it’s been expanded, burned, restored, and reshaped to match the tastes of whoever ruled there. It’s surrounded by the beautiful Lake Schwerin, which gives it this almost floating look that photographers love. Inside, the castle’s interior still keeps a lot of 19th-century furniture and decor, so it really feels like stepping into another time. Even if you’re not a history buff, the sheer atmosphere pulls you in. You can almost picture dukes, servants, and musicians moving through those grand halls hundreds of years ago.
