The official language in Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) is Portuguese. It’s used in schools, media, and government. However, most locals speak Cape Verdean Creole, known as Kriolu, in everyday life. The Creole language varies a bit from island to island but is widely understood everywhere. English is not common, though some people in tourism speak it. Visitors who try a few Kriolu words are always appreciated by locals. The language blend perfectly captures Cabo Verde’s warm, multicultural island vibe.
