Cameroon has two official languages: French and English. French is more widely spoken, but English is used mainly in the northwest and southwest regions. The country is also home to over 200 local languages, showing its amazing cultural diversity. Many Cameroonians are multilingual and switch between languages easily. In cities, you’ll often hear a mix of French, English, and local dialects. Pidgin English is also common in casual conversations. The country’s language mix makes Cameroon one of the most linguistically rich nations in Africa.
