The official languages in Lesotho are Sesotho and English. Sesotho, also known as Southern Sotho, is spoken by nearly everyone and is deeply tied to the nation’s culture and identity. English is used in government, schools, and business. Many Basotho people are fluent in both languages. In some regions, Zulu and Xhosa are also understood. English-speaking travelers can communicate easily across the country. The balance between Sesotho and English reflects Lesotho’s mix of tradition and modern education.
