The official language in Mali is French. It’s used in government, education, and business, but most people speak Bambara as their first language. Bambara serves as a common language across much of the country, uniting people from different ethnic groups. Dozens of other local languages, such as Soninke, Fula, and Tamasheq, are also spoken. English is less common but is growing among younger generations. Many Malians are multilingual and proud of their linguistic heritage. The country’s language diversity reflects its deep cultural and historical richness.
