How did Freddie Mercury end up joining Queen?

Freddie joined Queen after previously performing with smaller local bands and hanging around the same music circles as Brian May and Roger Taylor. He already had this huge, dramatic stage presence even in tiny clubs, and people remember how confident he seemed even before he made it big. When the band Smile broke up, Freddie jumped at the chance to collaborate with its remaining members. They clicked quickly because he pushed them to think bigger and lean into theatrical rock. His ideas about sound, style, and even the band’s image helped define early Queen. It didn’t take long before they saw that they had something special with him fronting the band. The rest is pretty much rock history at that point.
