Freddie was behind a lot of Queen’s most iconic songs, and each one shows a totally different side of him. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is the obvious one, and it’s still one of the most famous songs ever recorded. Then there’s “Somebody to Love,” which let him show off his insane vocal range and gospel influences. He also wrote “Don’t Stop Me Now,” a song that’s basically Freddie’s personality in musical form. Tracks like “We Are the Champions” and “Killer Queen” became global anthems thanks to his creativity. His writing style was dramatic, playful, emotional, and sometimes totally bizarre — but that was part of the magic. Even decades later, his songs feel fresh because of how he mixed genres without caring about the rules.
