Memorial Stadium currently has a seating capacity of about 85,458 fans. Over the years, expansions and renovations have grown the venue from its original capacity of around 31,000 when it opened in 1923. The stadium has undergone multiple upgrades, including major expansions in the late 1990s and early 2010s. Even though the official capacity is about eighty-five thousand, attendance at some events has topped 90,000 people. The venue ranks among the largest college football stadiums in the United States. Nebraska football games regularly fill the stands with fans dressed in red. Future renovation plans may slightly reduce capacity in order to improve seating comfort and fan amenities.
