Dare County is located in the very east of North Carolina. The county seat of Dare County is Manteo. The county's area exceeds 1,562 square miles. Founded in 1870 from Currituck County, Hyde County, and Tyrrell County, today Dare County counts over 38 thousand inhabitants. The county is named after Virginia Dare (b. 1587), the first child born of English parents in America.
