Tropical Storm Erin eyes hurricane strength with U.S. impacts mainly coastal

Forecasters expect Erin to reach hurricane status by the weekend. The track favors a pass north of the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico. Rip currents and higher surf could still affect parts of the U.S. East Coast. Guidance suggests a curve away from the mainland as it strengthens. Bermuda and Atlantic Canada may watch later next week. Emergency managers urged vigilance despite the current offshore outlook.
