The most famous structure at Chichen Itza is El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulcán. This step pyramid stands about 30 meters tall and is aligned with astronomical events. During the spring and autumn equinoxes, shadows create the illusion of a serpent descending the pyramid’s steps. The structure reflects the Maya’s advanced understanding of astronomy and architecture. It was used for religious ceremonies and as a calendar for agricultural cycles. El Castillo is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Its design demonstrates the Maya’s cultural sophistication and engineering skills.
