The building’s color was chosen to hide dirt and soot from Chicago’s smoky skyline in the 1960s.
It was one of the first skyscrapers in the world to use a mixed-use design with homes, offices, and shops.
The X-shaped braces reduce the amount of steel needed by about 25%.
The elevators are some of the fastest in North America, traveling up to 1,800 feet per minute.
On a clear day, visitors can see up to 80 miles and into four different states.
The building’s official name is now 875 North Michigan Avenue, but everyone still calls it the Hancock.
Its observation deck was one of the first to add interactive digital displays and virtual city tours.
