Tanzania has a diverse religious landscape that includes a mix of Christianity, Islam and traditional African beliefs. Christianity is the largest faith group, followed by a significant Muslim population, especially along the coast and on Zanzibar. Many Tanzanians also observe traditional spiritual practices that are woven into daily life. Religious affiliation statistics are not officially recorded in recent censuses, but estimates suggest that Christians form a slight majority while Muslims make up a large minority. On Zanzibar, almost the entire population is Muslim. Religious tolerance and coexistence are part of the country’s cultural identity. Places of worship from different faiths can be found throughout Tanzania’s towns and cities.
