Where is Kharg Island located in the Persian Gulf?

Kharg Island is a small Iranian island in the northern part of the Persian Gulf, located about 34 miles (55 km) northwest of the port city of Bushehr. Even though it’s not very large, the island has a huge strategic importance because of its oil facilities. The island sits close to major shipping routes used by tankers traveling through the Gulf. Its location makes it easier for large ships to load oil and quickly head toward international markets. Kharg Island is roughly 8 kilometers long and a few kilometers wide, giving it a compact but highly developed layout. Deep waters around the island allow massive oil tankers to dock there without major navigation problems. Because of this geography, the island became a key hub for energy exports in the region.
