English and Swahili are the official languages, so getting around is pretty easy for most travelers. You’ll hear friendly phrases like “Jambo!” (hello) and “Asante!” (thank you) everywhere. Kenya is also home to many ethnic groups, each with its own language and traditions. In cities and parks, staff in tourism know multiple languages and are happy to help. Learning a few Swahili basics goes a long way for smiles and smoother bargaining.
