Addison County is located in the western part of Vermont. The shire town of Addison County is Middlebury. The overall area of the county is about 770 square miles. Established in 1785 as part of Rutland County, today Addison County counts over 37 thousand inhabitants. The county is named after Joseph Addison (1672-1719), an English politician and writer.
